El Porvenir de Cafayate is one of the benchmark wineries of Salta. The oldest vineyard was planted approximately 65 years ago and each parcel is primarily comprised of sandy soils with elevations ranging from 1650 to 1900 metres above sea level. They strive to maintain the legacy of their ancestors while incorporating current winemaking and viticulture. All grapes are hand harvested ,working with Tannat, Torrontes, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah along with some small plots of additional varietals. The winery is currently run by Lucia Romero-Marcuzzi, the granddaughter of Roberto, the founder of El Porvenir de Cafayate.

Tannat is a red wine grape variety that is originally from the Madiran and Jurançon regions of southwestern France. The grape is known for its deep color, high tannin and alcohol levels and high acidity. Tannat wines are known for their dark fruit flavors, such as blackberry and black cherry, as well as earthy, spicy notes and a hint of bitterness. The wines can be quite tannic and may benefit from aging to soften and develop the tannins.
Tannat wines have traditionally been made in a very full-bodied style and with high alcohol content, which makes them well-suited for pairing with rich, hearty meat dishes such as grilled meats, game, and strong cheeses. Nowadays winemakers are experimenting with different techniques to make more approachable and easy to drink Tannat wines with lower tannins and alcohol.
Uruguay has been the main producer of Tannat wine, where winemakers have developed successful wine styles in the last few decades that are similar to those of the south-west of France.
