Uruguayan wines

Uruguayan wines, particularly Tannat wines, have been gaining recognition for their distinctive character and quality. Uruguay's small, boutique wineries often focus on this indigenous grape variety, Tannat, which produces robust red wines with dark fruit flavors and firm tannins. The country's cool maritime climate, with influences from the Atlantic Ocean, contributes to the unique flavor profile of Uruguayan wines. While Tannat is the star, winemakers also experiment with other grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Albariño for whites. Uruguayan wines are known for their approachable styles and pair well with a variety of foods, including traditional Uruguayan barbecue (asado).
