Terrazas de los Andes

Towards the end of the 1950s, Moët & Chandon sent their head of wine production, Renaud Poirier, to South America in the search for regions with great winemaking potential. Poirier was most impressed by the vineyards in Luján de Cuyo, in the Mendoza region, and he convinced his team to create their first wines outside of France just there. This involved several years of research to find the best terroirs for each kind of grape they use until eventually the Terrazas de los Andes winery was opened for business in 1999.
Terrazas de los Andes Reserva is one of the emblematic wines the firm creates, a wine bringing together all the qualities of the very best red wines from Argentina. A Malbec wine produced from vines ranging between 20 and 80 years in age, planted at altitudes over 1000 metres high up in the Uco Valley. The extremely cool nights and chalky soil poor in organic material provide the ideal conditions for a perfect ripening of the grapes.

Malbec is a red wine grape variety that is originally from France. It is now primarily grown in Argentina, where it has become one of the country's most successful and recognizable exports. The grape produces a deep purple wine with dark fruit flavors, such as blackberry and plum, along with notes of spice and tobacco.
Malbec wines tend to be full-bodied with moderate acidity and medium to high tannins. They are often aged in oak barrels to give them a smooth, round texture and subtle vanilla or toast flavors. Malbec pairs well with red meats, particularly beef, and hearty, flavorful cheeses.
